Description:

Steel file with a wooden handle. Hand files have been used since the Stone Age for smoothing, cleaning and sharpening objects. The file is made up of different parts, where the handle is fitted is called the tang. The metal file itself is called the belly or face. Some are smooth like this one, others have teeth.

The file pictured will probably have been used to file metal and remove sharp corners and flat surfaces.
