Description:

The brass compass shown might well be welcomed as a gift by a scout and would, no doubt, be accurate and useful when navigating a trek.

However, it is not an official product from the British Scouts Association and is sold elsewhere online as a ‘collectible’ or fun gift.  The cover has the name of a company in New South Wales, Australia, but the scout oath inside the lid is used in the USA and not in the United Kingdom or Australia. The compass recommended for use by scouts is silver and certainly lighter than the brass compass.

In this country there is a scout promise, with variations to reflect different beliefs, but the Christian one reads

‘On my honour,
I promise that I will do my best
to do my duty to God and to The Queen,
to help other people
and to keep the Scout Law.’
