Elaine has kindly shared these pictures of her doll with me and said they can be put onto the Memory Box project website. The doll came from Kristin Baybars Toy shop in London as had been stored for over 40 years. She’s in pristine condition. Jemima was created by Annette Shelley and starred in the BBC Playschool programme for decades. Annette Shelley went on to design the Strawberry Shortcake range of dolls.

Elaine says ‘Jemima made her appearance on BBCs Play School around 1977 and 5 year old me loved that show and how it engaged the imagination of children through the toys Humpty, Big Ted, Little Ted, Hamble & Jemima.’

Elaine also has an original Humpty doll and he can be seen sitting having tea with Jemima in one of the pictures.

I had one of these wonderful dolls in the late 60’s. She had orange hair, brown eyes and a purple flowery dress and I adored her. I named her Sally Anne but I have never known where that came from until recently when I spotted our old neighbour Sally on Facebook and realised that her middle name is Anne. I kept her until I was about 28 when she succumbed to mildew in my damp student flat, I tried to wash her by machine but this caused too much damage and I threw her out which I completely regret now. I remember that when my baby sister came along in 1971, I used to measure her against the doll to see if she was growing,
