Enid Blyton wrote 24 books about Noddy. The first was published in 1949 and ‘Noddy at the Seaside’ was the seventh in the series, published in 1953 at the price of three shillings and sixpence. It is still in print and available for approximately £7.

In the stories, Noddy lived in Toyland, and was often getting himself into trouble. Well-known for driving around in his red and yellow car with companions Big-Ears, Tessie Bear and Bumpy Dog.

In this book, Noddy and Big Ears go on a holiday and Noddy gets his first experience of the sea.

Since the books were first published, Noddy has become a household character with multiple TV shows, toys and merchandise.

Enid Blyton also wrote stories about Mary Mouse – I remember looking forward to receiving a Mary Mouse picture book in my Christmas stocking in the 1940s. They were shaped like a cheque book.
