Description:

Doll wearing blue patterned cotton and lace dress, white lace hat and white leather shoes. Hair styled as ringlets. Style is possibly French.

Dolls have been in existence since prehistoric times and function both as toys and collectibles. In the 19th century dolls had porcelain heads and their bodies were made of leather, cloth, wood or papier mâché. In the 20th century, plastics and polymers were introduced and used instead. By the middle of the 20th century, dolls were made from soft vinyl, especially those for children to play with (dolls were still made from other materials for adults and collectors).
